HENRIETTA'S STORY                    news

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 13 and by my early twenties, the disease had progressed sufficiently for my wrists to warrant a support. I was thus presented with the UK National Health issue wrist brace, a flesh coloured elastic affair bedecked with Velcro straps. This was hardly something a young fashion-conscious girl wanted to wear.

I was, at the time, working in the fashion business and flatly refused to have anything to do with the splint. My wrists, needless to say, got worse. My mother decided that if I wouldn't wear something that was currently on the market, she would have to produce something that I would wear.

She approached Sebastian Conran, who already had experience in the disabled field, to design a new wrist brace and working with the occupational therapists at the Hammersmith Hospital, they came up with the Wristeasy™, which I have been wearing ever since. I have never, once, been asked what is wrong with my arm - which was always one of my major complaints. You can bore even yourself discussing your health endlessly and there is nothing remotely glamorous about damaged wrists.

We have now decided to produce and market this wrist brace ourselves, as we feel that it is something that will bring help and relief to so many sufferers.
